Drive win 5-3: Mike Jones 28 game hitting streak comes to an end
|
|
For the second straight day, the Greenville Drive managed only five hits in a South Atlantic League game against the Rome Braves...Unlike Wednesday’s defeat, the Drive came out with a 5-3 victory in front of a Fluor Field crowd of 4,564..The win stopped a Greenville three-game losing streak, which tied for the longest of the season.“The hits were limited, but we made our at-bats count,” Greenville manager Kevin Boles said.“When we made an out, it was a productive out. When a runner were at third with less than two outs we were able to get the RBI.”
The Drive opened the scoring in the third. Kristopher Negron reached on an infield single, then stole second base.
Center-fielder Che-Hsuan Lin reached on a Rome infield error that allowed Negron to score. Lin later scored on a Yamaico Navarro groundout.
The Drive (19-16) scored three in the fourth to extend their lead to four. Rome (12-22) starter Eric Barrett issued three walks and was touched for three hits in the frame.
There was one downside for the Drive as first baseman Mike Jones had his franchise best 28-game hitting streak come to an end. He was 0-for-3 and was hit by a pitch. |
