Judge refuses to throw out lawsuit against Clemson University
|
SPARTANBURG, S.C. (AP) - A federal judge has refused to toss out
a lawsuit against Clemson University filed by a former executive
secretary to the school's Board of Trustees.
Chalmers Eugene Troutman sued the university earlier this year,
saying Clemson has raised tuition in the past eight years to
overstuff a rainy day fund that now totals $80 million.
The university has denied the claims and asked U.S. District
Judge Matthew J. Perry III to throw out the lawsuit. He refused
yesterday, also turning down the school's request to move the case
from Columbia to Greenville or Anderson.
Troutman says trustees fired him in August because he raised
questions about the tuition increases. |
