Vice president calls Iraq losses regrettable

JERUSALEM (AP) - Vice President Cheney says he, like anyone,
regrets "every casualty, every loss in Iraq."
Cheney is in Jerusalem, where he was asked today about news of
the 4,000th American death in Iraq. The milestone was reached
yesterday when four soldiers were killed by a roadside bomb in
Baghdad.
The vice president acknowledges the mark may have a
psychological impact on the American public. He says the president
is the person who has to make the decision "to send young men and
women into harm's way," adding, "It never gets any easier."
One widely respected tally by Iraq Body Count, which collects
figures based mostly on media reports, estimates that up to about
90,000 Iraqi civilians have lost their lives in the conflict.
