One man arrested for robbery in front of the Peace Center

GREENVILLE, S.C. -- Police said Thursday they arrested one of the two men responsible for the armed robbery of a vacationing FBI agent a week ago.
Police said a person of interest in the case, 23-year-old Elmer David Cespedes-Orozco, turned himself in to police in Lexington, N.C., on Wednesday night. They said Cespedes-Orozco waived extradition and was brought to Greenville on Thursday.
Cespedes-Orozco was charged with three counts of armed robbery, pointing a firearm at a person and possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime.
Police said Cespedes-Orozco was the man driving the getaway car after he and another man robbed a group of people in front of the Peace Center on April 27.
During the robbery, the men fired at least one shot at the group of victims, police said. They said the FBI agent who was part of the group pulled out her weapon and returned fire at the two men.
Investigators said there may be connection between the armed robbery and the discovery of the decomposing body of a man in Laurens County on Tuesday night. However, they said it is too early in that investigation to make any solid connections.
The coroner said that man was killed when he was shot and the bullet pierced his heart.
