COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - A September trial date has been set for a
South Carolina trooper caught on tape using his patrol car to ram a
fleeing suspect.
Chief U.S. District Judge David Norton today tentatively set
Steven C. Garren's trial to start September 29th in Greenville.
Garren was charged last month with depriving a man of his right
to be free from the use of unreasonable force by police. Garren has
been suspended and faces up to 10 years in prison.
His lawyers say they are waiting for the government to turn over
evidence, including dashboard camera videos from other officers at
the scene.
